After School Activities sign-up now to fall break

Students and parents may sign-up at the office from now until Fall Break. Checks are made payable to the class teacher. Classes will start the week of October 20 and go until the week of November 17. Class times are from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
MONDAY

CHESS CLUB – Joe Price: Grades 1-8,  Free
The chess club will be a mix of instruction and time to practice with other students. All ability levels are welcome. We will have more advanced instruction for students who have played in the past as well as basic instruction for those that are new. We will be preparing to compete as a school at the district and state tournament

CROCHETING FOR EVERYONE (Parents are welcome!) – Celeste Albright: Ages 10-Adults,  $15
This is a class for beginners, intermediate, or advanced students. I will show you how to chain, do multiple stitches, finish projects, read patterns, and make anything from scarves to lace. I will have three patterns available for each skill level.  All skill levels will be in the same class. So start your Christmas gifts now! Fee includes a hook, a pattern, and yarn. If you want specific yarn, you’ll have to bring that yourself.

TUESDAY

ZENTANGLE ART – Mr. Pratt:  Grades 1-8,  $25
See how fun doodling can be through Zentangle techniques. Students will learn simple and complex patterns that can be used to enhance the visual effect of so many art projects. Students will walk away with 3 Zentangle projects by the end of the 5 weeks. Returning students will work on more complex patterns and projects.

WEDNESDAY

JAPANESE CLASS – Wendy Ahlman:  Grades 1-8,  $35
We will be learning beginning Japanese skills. Specifically we’ll explore reading, writing, speaking and understanding the spoken language. We’ll have 2 culture classes during the session as well. During those classes, we’ll learn to make Japanese food and enjoy the dishes we made!

BEGINNING FENCING – Bethany Andrews:  $35
This class is exactly what a budding swordfighter is looking for! Fencing teaches self-discipline, strategy and critical thinking. It has been described as “chess at 80mph”. In this introductory class we will learn footwork, simple blade work, how to build a tactical plan, the rules of the game and (of course) weapon safety. Fencing equipment will be provided for use during class time.

THURSDAY

OVEN-BAKE CLAY CREATIONS -Mary Parker:  Grades 1-8, $35, Limit 8
Students will work with non-toxic oven-bake polymer clay (sculpey) to create fun projects such as pens, jewelry beads, charms/keychains, magnets, and animal figures.

We are ready to start our next set of after school classes! Classes will be held each week for 8 weeks. Classes will start the first full week of February and will end the last full week of March. Please submit your class information by January 25. Sign-ups will be the 27 – 31. Classes are held from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Lego Robotics -Mr. Black  Grades 1-8  3:00-4:00 PM  $35.00 fee (Checks payable to Reagan Academy)   10-20 students
Want to make robots out of Lego’s that you can control? Using Lego Mindstorm kits, students will learn robotics concepts through teamwork and problem solving challenges.  The kits will enable groups of students to simulate real-life robotics and robotic systems.  Students will also create a Lego vehicle that, using multiple sensors, will maneuver through a challenging and fun obstacle course.

“Best Me I Can Be”- Mrs. Shade  Grades 2-5  3:00-4:00   $30    10-15 students
A Guide for Your Most Confident You! Come learn fun and exciting ways to be the best you by forming good habits, increasing your self-esteem, and learning charm school manners. This class is for girls in grades 2-5.

Babysitter’s Club -Diana Warren Grades 3 and up, $40  5-10 students
Do you love to babysit?  Would you like to learn how to be a Super Sitter?  Join us for the Babysitter’s Club!  Each week we will cover a new topic and make a game/activity to add to your very own Babysitter’s Kit.  Topics include: How to Distract a Crying Child, How to Take Care of a Baby, What Should I Do If….?, and more!  (Basic First Aid will be addressed, however, teacher is not a certified First Aid instructor.)  Email diwarren71@comcast.net with any questions.

So many games and apps, so much fun!  Come experience some exciting computer applications including: Garageband, Soundtrack, Lego Digital Designer, Google SketchUp, Bridge Builder, and many other educational apps and games.

“Leadership”  – Mrs. Olson  Grades 6 – 8 3:00-4:00 PM   $30.00
Leadership is built with a strong foundation of character, discipline, vision, optimism, decision making, knowledge, wisdom along with other basic virtues.  These characteristics are learned a little at a time.
Goal setting is a basic part of a leadership foundation.  Once you learn how to set goals, make an action plan and enjoy the rewards of your achievement.  You then can implement this into your future with success and become a leader of your life.

Stone Carving – Mr. Pratt Grades 6-8 3:00-4:00. $35.. Limit of 20 students.
Students will carve and polish small pieces of alabaster stone to make a small sculpture or necklace pendant.

Design Squad – Diana Warren Grades 4 and up, $40  5-10 students
Do you love to build things?  Do you love science?  Are you interested in how things work?  If so, you will love the Design Squad!  Based on the PBS Kids show, Design Squad, we will think outside the box as we work together to solve engineering challenges.  Create a Zip Line, build a Hovercraft, make a Robotic Arm and more!  Email diwarren71@comcast.net with any questions.

Have fun learning to create and make simple crafts. Students will get to create with paper, fabric, wood, glass, yarn, duck tape, paint, glue, and more!

Math Club – Diana Warren all grades, $25    8-16 students
Does your student need a little bit of extra practice to master math facts?  Let’s have fun with numbers while we practice addition/subtraction or multiplication/division facts (depending on math level).  Using music, physical activities, manipulatives and games, we will work together to master those facts—no worksheets allowed!  Email diwarren71@comcast.net with any questions.

CO2 Car Club

Do you want to make a dragster racecar?  Now you can create and race your own CO2 car!  This hands-on club will be a chance for students to create cars out of wood that will be shaped, painted, and raced by students.  CO2 cartridges are used to propel cars across a racetrack with speeds up to 40 miles per hour.  Students will be able to take home the cars they make

Registration will be held on Wednesday, January 23rd from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm at the school. If you are unable to attend the registration, please contact the teacher DIRECTLY.  You may register by sending your child to the registration with a check made out to the instructor.  Please do not give the registration forms or money to the office. Students can register for themselves if they have the permission from a parent/guardian as well as the payment made out properly.  *Note:  Mike Black’s payments are to be made out to Reagan Academy.

Students will learn about aerodynamics, stability, and model rocketry.  We will be designing, building and flying real flying rockets made from scratch with real rocket engines.  Each student will make at least one rocket that we will launch at the end of the class.  We will be covering more advanced topics (2 stages, building techniques, payloads, altitude optimization, etc.)  Previous experience suggested but not required.  Meet in the drop-down for the first day of class.

Each week we will learn how to make a different style of paracord bracelet and you will get to take home your creation.  The cost of the class includes your supplies.  Start your own collection or make awesome gifts for your friends!  We will learn different knots and how to use buckles, knot closures, and a slip-on version.  One will even include an emergency whistle buckle.  Meet in Mrs. Ashcraft’s room.
